What is Prosecco?
Prosecco is an Italian wine made mainly from Glera grapes, best known for its sparkling styles and fresh fruit character. Prosecco DOC comes from designated areas of Veneto and Friuli Venezia Giulia. It includes white and rosé sparkling wines, semi‑sparkling white wine and still white wine.
Where it’s from, how it tastes and the roséWhat’s the difference between Prosecco and Champagne?
Prosecco and Champagne have different roots: northeastern Italy and France’s Champagne region. Their grapes and sparkling methods differ too. Prosecco DOC spumante develops its bubbles in tanks; Champagne’s second fermentation happens in bottles. The choice comes down to the particular wine and your taste.
Method, taste, sweetness and alcohol, side by sideIs Prosecco sweet or dry?
Prosecco has a reputation for being sweet. Most of it isn’t. What people taste as sweetness is usually fruit: Glera, the main grape, smells of green apple, pear and white flowers, and a nose full of ripe fruit convinces the palate it’s getting sugar.
