Mini Prosecco Bottles: Sizes, Glasses and When to Use Them

Mini Prosecco bottles are designed for big celebrations. Let the effervescent magic of tiny bubbles add a sparkling touch of delight to your special occasions.

Mini Prosecco bottles usually hold 187 mL or 200 mL. In the US the standard mini is the 187 mL “split” (also called a piccolo), about 6.3 ounces, or one generous glass. In Italy and the rest of Europe the common size is 200 mL (20 cl). Either way, a mini pours about a glass and a quarter, and one per guest is the rule.

The mini bottle has a strange social power. Hand someone a glass of Prosecco and they say thank you. Hand them their own tiny bottle and they act as if you’ve given them a present. Which, technically, you have.

Prosecco bottle sizes and glasses per bottle

Based on a 5 oz (150 mL) glass:

Bottle Also called Size Glasses
187 mL split, piccolo, mini 6.3 oz about 1¼
200 mL 20 cl mini (Europe) 6.8 oz about 1⅓
375 mL half bottle, demi 12.7 oz about 2½
750 mL standard 25.4 oz 5
1.5 L magnum 50.7 oz 10

A 187 mL mini at 11% alcohol is a little over one US standard drink.

When minis beat a full bottle

  • Wedding and shower favors. One per place setting, with a name tag tied around the neck. It doubles as the toast.
  • Gifts and holiday baskets. A mini says “thinking of you” without saying “here’s a whole evening.”
  • Office and team celebrations. Everyone gets the same pour, and nothing goes flat on the conference table.
  • Hotel welcome trays and picnics. No leftovers, no stopper hunt.
  • A party of one. A full bottle is a plan. A mini is a mood.

And when minis don’t make sense: a sit-down dinner or a toast for 50, where a full bottle pours more evenly and costs less per glass. Our drinks calculator does that math.

How to serve mini bottles

  • Chill them well. Small bottles warm up fast once they’re out of the ice. Serve at 43 to 46°F.
  • Open with care. A mini is under pressure just like a full bottle. Many minis close with a screw cap or a stopper rather than a wired cork; check before you start twisting. If it’s a cork, point it away from people.
  • Drink them young. Prosecco is made to be enjoyed fresh. Minis aren’t for the cellar.
  • Glass or straw? For a party, pour into flutes. For a picnic, a mini straight from the bottle is a time-honored tradition, as long as it’s your own.

Bella Principessa in mini bottles

Bella Principessa Prosecco DOC and Bella Principessa Prosecco DOC Rosé both come in a 200 mL size as well as the standard 750 mL bottle. Same ceramic-painted bottle, no paper label, which is exactly what you want on a wedding table. See Prosecco DOC and Prosecco DOC Rosé.

Where to buy mini Prosecco in the US

Many grocery stores, wine shops and big-box retailers sell 187 mL Prosecco singly or in 3- and 4-packs. For a wedding or event, ask a local wine shop to order by the case; they usually can, often with a case discount. See also: where to buy good-quality Prosecco.
